What is Invisalign?

Invisalign uses a series of invisible, removable, and comfortable aligners that no one can tell you’re wearing. So you can smile more during treatment as well as after. Invisalign is made with 3D computer imaging technology and has been proven effective.

Invisalign is a much less obvious alternative for braces. With clear aligners that are completely removable, no one will be able to tell that you’re wearing them when you smile.

Just like braces though, Invisalign is custom made. But unlike braces, they are made in a specific order in a slightly different shape—all to slowly adjust your teeth to be straight.

There are no rubber bands, tightening, or difficulty brushing your teeth with Invisalign, but how exactly does it work?

How Does Invisalign Treatment Work?

Invisalign treatment works by utilizing 3D technology to take a scan of your teeth. From there, we, as your orthodontist, will create a customized treatment plan with the final result of you having straight, well-aligned teeth.

Basically, Invisalign clear aligners work by slowly adjusting your teeth in as soon as a couple of weeks using medical-grade thermoplastic material. You wear each set of aligners for one to two weeks, removing them only to eat, drink, brush, and floss. As you replace each aligner with the next in the series, your teeth will move — little by little, week by week — until they have straightened to the final position your doctor has prescribed.

Your teeth will straighten out in their proper position over as little as six months, although you’ll see changes in just a few weeks.

You’ll visit our practice about once every six to eight weeks to ensure that your treatment is progressing as planned.

Invisalign and Teens

Gone are the days of being a teenager with braces and rubber bands—not with the option of Invisalign treatment today. Invisalign is virtually invisible, allowing teens to eat what they want and making it so much easier to clean their teeth.

For many teens, this may be the best option. Your teen won’t need to worry about feeling self-conscious about their metal braces, nor will they have to commit to a few years of having braces attached to their teeth. Invisalign is a much less anxiety-inducing process, and certainly won’t be obvious when your teen is trying to enjoy their youth.

Invisalign is actually made differently for teens, though. Because teens are less likely to remember to put their liners back on after eating, the teen version is made with a blue indicator dot that tracks how many hours they were worn that day. There are also more liners for teens, who tend to lose or damage them more often.

Ultimately, Invisalign clear aligners work the same between teens and adults: they’re made to be invisible, comfortable, and easy to remove and replace so that you can carry on with your everyday life without worrying about traditional braces.

Invisalign Benefits

Comfort

It’s a fact that the metal brackets of traditional braces can cut into your lips and cheeks. In contrast, Invisalign has no sharp edges. They’re made custom for your teeth, are smooth, and will fit exactly into your mouth.

You’ll still feel your teeth moving and the slight discomfort associated with that, but as your orthodontist, we will provide you with the liners in the right order to make the process as painless as possible.

Invisible

You don’t need to worry about going to a big meeting with braces on as an adult, nor does your teen need to struggle with smiling for school pictures with braces on their teeth. That’s because Invisalign is virtually invisible—only noticeable when they’re taken out to eat.

Simpler Hygiene

It’s much easier to care for your teeth when you don’t need to brush around metal braces. Invisalign is removable, so you can brush your teeth like how you used to. You won’t need to struggle with removing food that so easily gets stuck and there are no awkward angles with Invisalign aligners either.

Ultimately, easier hygiene and oral care will help prevent other dental issues like cavities, gum disease, tooth decay, or discoloration.

Easier Process

With Invisalign, you have fewer orthodontic visits, and less invasive ones at that. It’s much easier to care for your teeth and simpler to live with this option since you don’t need to sacrifice your favorite foods either. The entire orthodontic treatment process is more straightforward to bear with compared to braces, especially since no metal and wires means faster appointments.

Invisalign also allows you to view your own virtual treatment plan when you start so you can see how your straight teeth will look when your treatment is complete.

Braces vs. Invisalign

Braces are one of the most popular options for teeth straightening still. As a metal system of brackets and wires, they’re literally cemented to your teeth and connected with wires and elastic to apply constant pressure.

They cannot be removed and must be brushed around, which can be a hassle for daily cleaning. They’re cheaper too if the price is a consideration.

On the other hand, Invisalign is virtually invisible, since they’re clear aligners that can be removed whenever you want. You have to remember to wear them sequentially and remember not to lose or misplace them if you want the best treatment.

Invisalign treatment is more expensive, but they may be the most preferable option if you want a less-noticeable choice.
